Do you get confused about what you need when you go to the dentist.  Are the dental isles in stores overwhelming to you.   Does the thought of going to the dentist make you cringe?  You are not alone.  Many people are confused about products and dental anxiety is very common.

Dental Fear

The dental office provokes fear, anxiety and downright terror in some people. I am here to help you manage these with information. What the heck is scaling and root planing? Why do you need an oral cancer screening? What is all this stuff that I am supposed to use at home. Products like medicated rinse, fluoride, toothpaste, antibiotic treatments and the overwhelming selections of toothbrushes and floss can be confusing. I explain it so you understand.

How Can the Help Me Hygienist Help You?

My name is Lori and I am here to help you.  I am a Registered Dental Hygienist with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. Working with patients with Dental anxiety is my strength.  I see patients every day that are nervous going to the dentist, some are down right terrified.  It is my job to make patients feel safe enough to begin treatment.  In many cases patients have had bad experiences in the past.  I find that education is the best tool in helping people through their fear and into the chair.  Not every patient is afraid, but everyone deserves to be informed.  I am here to help you.

Throughout this site you will find information related to dental hygiene procedures, dental anxiety and dental products.  I have placed links to as many of the products as I could find to help you improve your oral health.  I even have a store page with electric toothbrushes, tooth whitening aids and many other products that I like so you can avoid some of those trips to stare at the dental aisle in your local store…you know what I mean.  It is easy to walk into the isle just looking for a tube of toothpaste and be stared back at by what seems like a million choices.  Before you know it you have been standing there for half an hour with an empty cart and wanting to run away.  If I haven’t mentioned a product you are wondering about send me a message and I will look into it.  I try to add at least one well researched article a week to build the site but I am willing to take your lead on what to write about.

  1. Hi. Had a quick question I work in a dental office and make in house occlusal guards. I was wondering what is the best way to sterilize it before giving to the pt. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

I would use the Cavicide spray, or whichever brand you guys use. I\’m not sure what material that the guard is made of, but it may not hold up in the autoclave. When I clean patient\’s night guards I usually spray them down with the Cavicide then rinse them in Listerine or a similar rinse after I soak them so they taste minty fresh.
