Brush DJ App for iPhone and Adroid

I found a really cool app recently called Brush DJ. It was created by a dentist to promote proper oral hygiene. As a hygienist, I don’t have a problem brushing for two minutes, but my daughter brushes like most kids her age, quick and, well, not so well. When I read about this app on another site I thought it would be perfect for her. First off, she thinks my phone is the coolest thing ever and second she loves music. I was soon searching iTunes for Brush DJ.

What is so Great about Brush DJ?

This is the first App I have reviewed on this site. I usually focus on doing research and hashing it out for my audience in an easily understandable way. This is not my usual post. I wanted to share this with you because I feel that it is something that is easy to use, fun for everyone and it is FREE. Free is great in the App world because you can try it out and see how you like it. So the number one great thing about this App is the price tag.

Not far behind the price are the amazingly simple, yet oh so important functions. Brush DJ has the ability to remind you of those little things that often slip your mind. In addition to setting reminders on your phone to brush, floss and rinse, you can set reminders to change your toothbrush/electric toothbrush head and even to make your routine cleaning and exam appointments. How many times have you missed an appointment and by the time you got around to reschedule it, discovered it had been long overdue? This is such a common problem, now easily remedied.

Finally, Brush DJ does all of this in a fun way. Brush DJ uses a music to promote proper brushing time. While you brush a random song is chosen from your phone to play for two minutes. Every thirty seconds the phone vibrates to tell you to move on to the next quadrant. After two minutes of brushing you are rewarded with cheers. This is very fun to used with your kids to teach them proper brushing time. Another thing that I like about this App is that if the song that starts is not one that you want to listen to, or is not appropriate for your child to hear, you can just shake your phone and a new song will start. Face it most of our phones are not loaded with Wiggles songs so there may be times that we want to change to a more child friendly song. If you are not using this with your kids feel free to rock out to those songs with all the not so radio friendly words and use them to motivate you to brush for clean and healthy teeth and gums.

Brush DJ was developed by Dentist Benjamin Underwood as a way to promote oral health. Brush DJ can be used on Iphones and Androids with an App for Blackberry in the works.
